Monday - Thursday: Students will complete Lessons 4, 5, 6 related to the Stock Market Game. The lesson plans can be found here:

On Monday and Tuesday students will finalize their list of 20 prospective investment companies. We will also create a spreadsheet together to track the stocks they buy in the game, and select three initial companies the students will buy stocks in to compete in the game.

We will also watch a few videos related to choosing stocks and playing the game, which were distributed during a training session attended Jan. 12.

Friday: Students will complete a written assessment on Google Classroom covering vocabulary and information obtained during the lessons visited through the week. This will be a summative assessment.

Students who did not do well on Friday's test will retake the test during ELT as a reassessment.

Jan. 17-20, 2017

Tuesday - Counselor visits Wednesday - Friday: Students will be completing two lessons on the Stock Market Game in preparation for the Georgia Economic Council's 10-week simulation activity. Teachers from LaFayette Middle recently attended a training session in order to play the game, which kicks off Jan. 31, 2017 when students will compete with other schools in Georgia and across the United States. This week students will learn about the stock market, will create teams of three to compete against others, and take the first steps in picking companies in which to invest $100,000 in virtual funds.

Monday through Thursday:
Friday was snowed out, Monday we were on a two-hour delay.
Students will finish up geography questions from the Atlas textbook on Monday.
Tuesday the counselor will visit for the class period.
Wednesday and Thursday we will read two very short chapters on environment issues and population distribution together and answer questions to gauge understanding. On Thursday students who missed any questions will go over the corrected answers with the teacher. On Thursday provided the technology is available students will be able to take a practice test in preparation for Friday's test over Chapters 1-3.
Friday:
We will spend the first half of class reviewing before taking the test.
Closing each day will be review games revolving around new and previous vocabulary words, geography terms, facts, and locations, as well as material covered in class.
Differentiation: Students who miss any chapter questions will correct answers with teacher. Chapter questions are formative assessments used to gauge how students are accomplishing their goals of learning new material. Direct instruction strategies will be used. Students will review individually and with academic partners.
When students begin group projects they will be grouped with academic partners. Assessments this week will be formative in nature and a summative test Friday over chapters 1-3.

a. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map: the Sahara, Sahel, savanna, tropical rain forest, Congo River, Niger River, Nile River, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Victoria, Atlas Mountains, and Kalahari Desert.
b. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map the countries of Democratic Republic of the Congo (Zaire), Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, and South Sudan.
SS7G2 The student will discuss environmental issues across the continent of Africa.
a. Explain how water pollution and the unequal distribution of water impacts irrigation, trade, industry, and drinking water.
b. Explain the relationship between poor soil and deforestation in Sub-Saharan Africa.
c. Explain the impact of desertification on the environment of Africa from the Sahel to the
rainforest.
SS7G3 The student will explain the impact of location, climate, and physical characteristics on population distribution in Africa.

This short week will be working on geography of Africa, the final area of the world for our studies this year. Students will identify both countries and physical features on a map, work from an atlas to develop deeper understanding of the region, and playing games to help memorize where everything is located.
