Week 12:
Focus This Week: Environmental issues in the region in standard SS7G10 and the impact various environmental factors have on population in standard SS7G11.
Opening:
Monday: Return Friday tests, discuss reassessment procedures and answer any questions.
Tuesday - Thursday: Differentiated instruction, see notes below.
Friday: Reading strategy to link current knowledge with text subject.
Work Periods:
Monday: New vocabulary words List 9 will be introduced focusing on the two standards. Students will create flashcards to study by themselves/with partner. Please see vocabulary section of Class Notebook on this website to find lists of words. We will read Chapter 25 from Student Workbook together and students will complete question from chapter in clickers.
I will intersperse instruction with short videos featuring environmental issues in Asia throughout the week.
Tuesday: Students will practice new vocabulary by themselves for five minutes, five minutes with a partner, and then take a practice quiz. Those who score 100 percent will receive a Rambler Pride Card and be able to opt out of vocabulary practice and complete enrichment activities each day. We will finish reading Chapter 25 if necessary, and then read Chapter 26 from the Student Workbook together and students will complete questions from chapter in clickers. Results are used as progress monitoring grades and as checks for understanding for differentiated instruction. We will finish any uncompleted work from previous day.
Wednesday: Students will practice new vocabulary by themselves for five minutes and take a clicker quiz. Those who score 100 percent will receive a Rambler Pride Card and be able to opt out of vocabulary practice and complete enrichment activities each day. We will finish and uncompleted work from previous day in Chapter 26.
Thursday: We will spend the first half of class reviewing previous information and chapter question answers. Enrichment activity may be used depending upon percentage of students who answered questions correctly. Second half of class will be devoted to assessment over Asia geography.
Friday: Standard test will be taken covering two chapters and new vocabulary.
We will read a non-fiction story together based on Asian region subjects taken from the Junior Scholastic magazine. Most classes will complete interactive text activities with partners or in a small group.
Closing: Each day we will watch CNN Student News and discuss current events as time allows.
ELT: Students are able to reassess during Extended Learning Time (ELT) and before school. If a student fails a test a stamp is placed on test asking for a parent signature and listing the date any reassessment must be completed by (please see Reassessment Form and contact me for any additional information). Students must complete with 100 percent accuracy any prior Progress Monitoring assignments and the failed test in order to reassess within the two-week window. Please visit the Running Record page to see list of assignments/dates leading up to any particular test.
During ELT we will be studying economics/personal finance by playing a stock market game.
Assessments/Differentiation: Students will complete several assessments/checks for understanding throughout the week on vocabulary and new information as it is presented. This information will then be used to determine what information needs more practice and which students will be placed in a review group to work directly with teacher to receive individual attention/partnered practice/small groupings to increase comprehension, understanding and hopefully retention. Low test scores correlate to the amount of time necessary for study; what we are able to do in class may not be enough and should be adjusted accordingly. Materials used in class are found on this website and books may be borrowed each night to use at home. Please contact me if I can assist in any way.
