Greetings All:
Seventh grade is an exciting time - full of change and new opportunities. I look back very fondly on my middle school years and hope you will enjoy each moment, make memories, and have the confidence to try new things.
Our first week and a half will be filled with activities designed to help me learn about you. The first two days we will play name games so I can try to overcome my personal challenges of learning 100 new names. You will fill out questionnaires, share what answers you like, and meet new classmates while reinvigorating old friendships.
The third day will be spent taking a Social Studies pre-test based on seventh grade standards. The same test will be given again as an end of course test to see if growth was made during the 2016-17 school year.
Next week we will be reviewing geography skills by using an atlas textbook and supplemental materials to learn about latitude and longitude, different types of maps and legends used, and touch on the history of cartography (map making.) Before there was GPS and electronic assistants, map reading was a valuable and required skill all parents had to possess. I see the need to teach and practice map reading just in case the cellular signal drops in the middle of nowhere!
Please look around and see what we did last year while it is visible. I try to put as much information, handouts, notes, and other classroom materials as I can on this website for students to use and access outside of class. I am constantly exploring new technology and software all the time to make my website the best it can be and provide cutting-edge tools to help students practice, learn and succeed in seventh grade Social Studies. Over the next couple of weeks I will try to highlight different features and materials available on my site.
Please sign up for Remind, a two-way communication text and email application that allows for quick and easy contact between students, parents and teachers. Note that I have a code for each block (First through Fourth) so make sure you sign up with the correct code. Contact me through email or by phone if I can be of more assistance - do not hesitate to call because it is my duty to help.
