Week 3
Aug. 23-28
Monday: Students will take SLO Test in the computer lab. Friday tests will be returned. If time allows, reassessment process will be explained, if not it will be completed the next day (see Tuesday notes.)
Tuesday: All students can reassess if they did not receive 100 percent on Friday’s test. Those who did not pass will receive a sticker on their test asking for a parent signature and a date two weeks away by which the reassessment must be taken (Sept. 4.) When students bring the signature back, they will then be given a form which lists steps to reassess. For the most part they must turn in any progress monitoring activities leading up to the test with 100 percent accuracy (we go over these answers in class together), and the original test with all answers corrected. Other activities may be required depending upon complexity of unit. This form will require a parent to sign off that the work has been completed. Students can reassess before school and during ELT but must complete the activity within the two-week window. If they fail a second time, they may try once more.

Tuesday: New vocabulary words written on notecards: Geography, unequal distribution, Suez Canal, monotheism, Sunni, Shia. Words/definitions available on Quizlet. Continue with area geography with National Geographic Enrichment booklets guided reading and questions.
Wednesday through Friday we will be looking at environmental issues in Southwest Asia in chapters 14 in the 7th Grade Social Studies Student Workbook.
Closing each day will be review games revolving around new and previous vocabulary words, geography terms, facts, and locations, as well as material covered in class.
This week we will be covering standards:
SS7G6 The student will discuss environmental issues across Southwest Asia (Middle East).
a. Explain how water pollution and the unequal distribution of water impacts irrigation and drinking water.
SS7G7 The student will explain the impact of location, climate, physical characteristics, Distribution of natural resources and population distribution on Southwest Asia (Middle East).
a. Explain how the distribution of oil has affected the development of Southwest Asia (Middle East).
b. Describe how the deserts and rivers of Southwest Asia (Middle East) have affected the population in terms of where people live, the type of work they do, and how they travel.
