Monday through Thursday:
New vocabulary words written on notebook paper. Words/definitions available on Quizlet. Differentiation: Words and definitions will be displayed on Smartboard and read aloud. Students will add List 9 to their vocabulary section of notebook.
This week we are continuing Unit 2 which covers the rest of Asia. We are working on Chapters 26 and 27 in the textbook.
Thursday (or sooner if possible) a practice test will be placed online that students can access to prepare for the test. If technology is available we will designate class time to practice individually, with academic partners, in small groups and as a class to practice testing.
Closing each day will be review games revolving around new and previous vocabulary words, geography terms, facts, and locations, as well as material covered in class.
Differentiation: Students who miss any chapter questions will correct answers with teacher. Chapter questions are formative assessments used to gauge how students are accomplishing their goals of learning new material. Direct instruction strategies will be used.
Friday: Test over vocabulary (cumulative covering Lists 1-9) and Chapter 26 and 27. Chapter tests are summative in nature and show how students are accomplishing their goals of learning new material.
After test we will read articles in Scholastic magazine together.
This week we will be covering standards:
SS7G11 The student will explain the impact of location, climate, physical characteristics, distribution of natural resources, and population distribution on Southern and Eastern Asia.
a. Describe the impact climate and location has on population distribution in Southern and Eastern Asia.
b. Describe how the mountain, desert, and water features of Southern and Eastern Asia have affected the population in terms of where people live, the types of work they do, and how they travel.
SS7G12 The student will analyze the diverse cultures of the people who live in Southern and Eastern Asia.
a. Explain the differences between an ethnic group and a religious group.
b. Compare and contrast the prominent religions in Southern and Eastern Asia: Buddhism,
Hinduism, Islam, Shintoism and the philosophy of Confucianism. c. Evaluate how the literacy rate affects the standard of living.
