Opening each day:

Work Period:
Students will receive graded tests taken Friday. Any student with a failing grade will have a “Reassessment by 9/19” stamped on their answer sheet. Students have five days to reassess any test taken from the date tests are handed back to the class. In order to reassess, students have to write the question and correct answer to any questions missed on the original test (a copy is available upon request) and conference with me to make sure they understand why errors were made. In addition, any chapter questions or other graded materials leading up to the test must have been completed and turned in.

Monday through Thursday:
New vocabulary words written on notebook paper. Words/definitions available on Quizlet. Differentiation: Words and definitions will be displayed on Smartboard and read aloud. Students will add List 5 to their vocabulary section of notebook.
This week we are looking economics and barriers to trade in the Middle East in chapters 18-19 in the student workbook.
Closing each day will be review games revolving around new and previous vocabulary words, geography terms, facts, and locations, as well as material covered in class.
Differentiation: Students who miss any chapter questions will correct answers with teacher.
Friday: Test over vocabulary (cumulative covering Lists 1-5) and chapters 18-19.
After test we will read articles in Scholastic magazine together.
This week we will be covering standards:
SS7E5 The student will analyze different economic systems.
a. Compare how traditional, command, and market economies answer the economic questions of (1) what to produce, (2) how to produce, and (3) for whom to produce.
b. Explain how most countries have a mixed economy located on a continuum between pure market and pure command.
c. Compare and contrast the economic systems in Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
SS7E6 The student will explain how voluntary trade benefits buyers and sellers in Southwest Asia (Middle East).
a. Explain how specialization encourages trade between countries.
b. Compare and contrast different types of trade barriers, such as tariffs, quotas, and embargos. c. Explain the primary function of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). d. Explain why international trade requires a system for exchanging currencies between nations.
SS7E7 The student will describe factors that influence economic growth and examine their presence or absence in Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
a. Explain the relationship between investment in human capital (education and training) and gross domestic product (GDP).
b. Explain the relationship between investment in capital (factories, machinery, and technology) and gross domestic product (GDP).
c. Explain the role of oil in these countries’ economies.
d. Describe the role of entrepreneurship.
